Recently we launched a new side project – an E-Commerce store selling niche products. The store sells both new and used products for our chosen niche. While working on the search rankings of the website, our main source of traffic, we devised multiple avenues to drive sales outside of pay-per-click marketing.
How we drove traffic to our site with eBay:
We made several large bulk purchases of used goods in our niche. We then sold these items on eBay, placing our logo in each product image while mentioning our online store as often as possible across our profile, item descriptions, etc.
We listed other used items on our store, for 10% less than what we were selling them for on eBay. Due to the nature of the products we are selling and our bulk suppliers, we are able to purchase the goods for 25% of their retail values.
Not only were we able to move a large number of items for a decent profit, but we started getting a large number of orders on our website. At the time orders started rolling in we had not started Pay-Per-Click advertising and our search engine rankings were insignificant. We had done no social marketing, nothing – we just sold products on eBay for a profit.
Moving Forward
We still continue to sell on eBay to drive traffic. The traffic we get from eBay is significantly less than what we get from search and social media marketing. The good thing about the eBay taffic is that it costs us nothing – were actually earning money in the process of generating traffic.
We do not release the niches we compete in with our network websites.
